| The concept of the A340 and A330 is a single basic airframe in versions with two or four engines
to achieve the need for airlines. A340 offers the needed for long-range requirement. A340 are fitted with a fuselage mounted center main landing gear.
The latest to the family are A340-500 and A340-600. A340-500 is once the world's longest range airliner and will be in service in 2002 until B777-200LR come into service in 2006. A340-500 can carry 313 passengers(THAI Airways carry only 222 passengers) in a three-class cabin layout 8500 nautical miles range . A340-500 is a six-frame stretch over the A340-300. A340-600 is the highest capacity member of the Airbus family . The 380 seat , A340-600 is the largest aircraft from Airbus has made its first flight on monday 23 April 2001 and completed a successful mission which lasted 5 hr. and 22 min. The system introduced on this aircraft such as the latest generation LCD displays and taxi cameras. The A 340-600 was launched in December 1997 along with its sister aircraft A 340-500. A340-600 is planned entry to service in Jun 2002. For A340-500 will be in service later after A340-600. |
