| The Ka-50 Black Shark is an advanced ,highly manoeuvrable close-support and air combat helicopter.
The Ka-50 Black Shark ( NATO Code name is HOKUM ) is developed by Kamov Helicopters JSC. Now is manufacturing at Sazykin Aviation Company Progress, Russia.
Kamov Ka-50 is also known as Werewolf in the market . Kamov Ka-50 is designed with co-axial twin rotors and without tail rotors , first flown in July 1982 and entered
service in Russian Army during the year 1995. It is a high-performance combat helicopter with day and night capability with high fire power to destroy the target and
heavily armoured tanks. Kamov Ka-50 and Mil Mi-28 had worked on both helicopter at the same time and both want to win the tender for helicopter from Soviet.
Even the test result came out seem to be that Ka-50 was better, but Soviet Ministry of Defense decided to continue development of both helicopters. The co-axial rotors designed offer a high degree of agility and speed , the elimination of tail rotors and its drive system , offer the adventages of the shorter fuselage for reduced battle field visibility. The helicopter has small mid-mounted wings fitted with four under wing suspension units and wingtip countermeasures pods. Armour installed around the cockpit to protect the pilot against 12.7 mm . Ka-50 is the world first installed a rescue ejection system, which allows pilot to escape at all altitudes and speeds. Ka-50 has retractable tricycle nosewheel type landing gear. | ||
