| L-159 ALCA ( Advanced Light Combat Aircraft ) is advanced subsonic jet trainer and combat produced by Aero Vodochody of Czech Republic.
Aero Vodochody was one of the world's largest producers of military trainer aircraft. Start from the eary 1960, Soviet Union was looking for a basic trainer. Many countries from Warsaw Pact
submitted their designs. Czechoslovakia proposed and won with the L-29 Delfin. The first production of L-29 delivered in April 1963 and about 3,600 aircraft were built. The L-159 ALCA benefits from
the well proven airframe design and aerodynamic configuration of the highly successful L-39 families. L-159 incorporates with Allied Signal F124-GA-100 turbofan engine , Boeing avionics,
Doppler radar, Seven external store stations, Ejection seats, Armour protection cockpit. L-39 Albatross succeeded the L-29 Delfin . The L-39 is a basic and advanced jet trainer first flew on November 1968. It was the standard jet trainer at that time for former Warsaw Pact countries and more than 3000 were built. Many versions were built and sold to many countries such as Thailand , Vietnam , Algeria , Bulgaria , Cuba , Romania ,etc. L-39ZA version for Thailand with the avionics supplied by Elbit of Israel. L-159 is the latest program being developed by Aero Vodochody of Czech and Boeing . In 1997, Aero Vodochody has joint venture with Boeing , Boeing was successful in tendering to acquire 35 percent of Aero Vodochody. The main purpose was to bring in western capital and expertise to ensure its export potential of L-159. For global market , L-159 had to meet NATO standards. The aircraft features western avionics , with an Allied Signal F124-GA-100 turbofan and can be armed with wide range of western air-to-air and air-to-ground smart ordnance. L-159 involves several of the world's major aircraft and components manufacturers as subcontractors such as Boeing, Allied Signal, GEC Marconi, FIAR, Honeywell, etc. The first L-159 flew on August 2, 1997 and Czech Airforce is the launch customer , will obtain 72 ordered L-159. | ||
