Sikorsky CH-53

Sikorsky CH-53D (Sea Stallion) is a medium lift helicopter has primary mission to move cargo and equipment. It has a secondary role of transfering troops ashore. This helicopter originally enterd service in the early 1960 during the Vietnam War as the CH-53A (Sea Stallion). CH-53D are also used to recover downed aircraft, sweep mined area. CH-53D is twin-turbine engines turn a single, six-bladed main rotor, has an automatic flight control system lessens pilot fatigue on long mission. CH-53D was ordered in the early 1960 to satisfy a Marine Corps requirement for heavy lift helicopter.Helicopter flew at the first time on October 1964
Sikorsky CH-53E (Super Stallion) is the largest helicopter in the western world. It is capable of lifting up to 36,000 lbs. It is one of the few helicopters in the world configured with 3 gas turbine engines and in flight refueling capability. With external cargo hooks and large cargo bay, this helicopter is used to move artillery, armored personnel carriers, light tank, and troops. CH-53E is an derivative from its CH-53 series and has a major changed to provide the largest lift capability. Improvements include the addition of a third engine to give more lift, seven main rotor bladed, Improved main rotor blades and composite tail rotor blades, a dual point cargo hook system. With four and one half hours endurance, the Super Stallion can move more equipment over rugged terrain in bad weather and at night. In additional to the changed of engine and main rotor, the most obvious change was in the tail configuration, a low mounted symmetrical horizontal tail was surmounted by larger vertical tail and tail rotor tilted from vertical so that the tail rotor provided some lift in hover while counter acting the main rotor torque. The first production aircraft flew in December 1980, being delivered to Marine in mid 1981.
